Council on Ocean Resources
The Council on Ocean Resources is comprised of agencies and organizations with responsibilities in the State of Hawaii’s marine and coastal zone. Established in 2013 by directors of state and county agencies, with unanimous support of federal and community partners, the Council facilitates greater coordination and implementation of the State’s shared ocean and coastal resource management priorities. |

One Vision – The State of Hawaii and its partners envision a healthy, productive, and sustainable ocean ecosystem that fosters economic growth while preserving and protecting Hawaii’s values and needs. This vision and the State’s priorities to attain it are further described in the Ocean Resources Management Plan. Coordinated Leadership – The Council is steered by twelve state and county directors and coordinated by the Office of Planning. This cabinet-level cooperation helps to leverage resources and streamline multi-agency efforts. Strong network – A partnership of state and county agencies has been collaborating since 1988 to improve the management of Hawaii’s ocean and coastal resources. The Hawaii Ocean Partnership is currently comprised of state and county agencies, federal partners, academia, and community groups. Each partner brings a set of key skills and expertise, as well as trusted relationships with community constituencies, for on-the-ground implementation and stakeholder engagement. |
